Happy Meal's "Sonic 3" Mobile Game
I was responsible for leading the character modeling, animations, and level design for this program. The challenge for this program was making the gameplay experience feel energetic and speed-driven in a maze structure. To meet it, we decided to have the characters go into ball form as they race around and create colorful, immersive set environments to keep the game engaging.
. . .
Below is a video showcasing the gameplay where you can pick which character to play and you get to race through each level collecting emeralds!
For the characters, we were fortunate to receive high-res, VFX production sculpt models from the client. I used the models as a base reference and created game-ready versions. I textured the characters, looking at promotional videos and trailers as a reference to re-create the look in game-ready format. I also set up the custom rigs that allow for blinking, eye control, and detail animations such as hair overlap.
Below are animations that I have done for Shadow and Knuckles. Inspired by the Sega Sonic games, I wanted to have waiting animations for the characters where they turn to face the user as they wait for a response. Clara Chou, 3D animator and modeler, worked on the animations for Sonic and Tails!
For the Design team, I re-created the chaos emerald from scratch for the experience. I constructed the diamond model in Blender and rendered the fractal shapes and lighting in Cinema4D. Who can resist a shiny Chaos gem!
